Three Shots, Some Waiting

We left earlier than usual to get our shopping done in both our regular supermarket and the Asian market before our noontime appointment at CVS (in the strip mall next door to the Asian place) to get our flu shots and COVID boosters. Robin checked in just fine, but there were all kinds of issues getting me checked in properly, all having to do with computer issues on CVS' end. The poor pharmacist, who I believe may have been on the spectrum, was beside himself. Plus, the place was way more crowded than in past visits; I suspect a lot of folks are rushing to get their shots as soon as they're eligible due to the Powers That Be trying their damndest to eliminate preventive healthcare. Once I was actually in their system again the shots went off without a hitch; as frustrated as the pharmacist was, that's how good he was at actually administering medicine. Now we wait for our arms to start hurting and presumably stop hurting again a few days' hence. Naturally, since I bought all sorts of Asian goodies, tomorrow's a stir fry day, but nothing else planned as we're still a bit run down from our last illness...

Silly Site o' the Day

Well, THAT was new. Around 10:20 this morning the house started shaking. We assumed at first it was some very loud construction going on. Then it kept up for around 20 seconds. The only thing I could imagine at that point was an earthquake. But the NYC region doesn't really get those. Or do we? Turned out that it was indeed a quake, centered around the area of NJ where my dad used to work, along the Ramapo Fault Line, and there was a fairly strong aftershock around 6 PM. I'm fairly sure we're done now but one never knows. Wow, you live long enough you experience lots of new things, even in nature. And I've found my eclipse glasses from 2017 so I'm set for Monday now. The eclipse should start around the time I'm getting out of my podiatrist's office so I'll be outside anyway. This should catch you up:

Silly Site o' the Day

Krakaboom! This is the horrid heat storm before the storm that will blow the heat away, so we just have to endure. Now that the June 30 deadline work is finally done with, I'm looking forward to nobody bothering me much the next couple of days. There are a handful of emails to deal with tomorrow, then I can relax and look forward to next week's activities (erm, medical visits and other errands, plus a visit to Mom). Say, have you tried any of these handy body-hacking tricks? The brain freeze prevention and pill-taking ones worked for me this evening.

Silly Site o' the Day

Just finished watching this week's NOVA, "Black Hole Apocalypse," without - thankfully - the apocalypse. Terrific documentary. Not sure if it's on the level of this, but I still highly recommend it:

Silly Site o' the Day

A mostly fun Eclipse Day! Waited a bit longer than I'd envisioned at the Rose Center for my viewing companions to show, and by the time we were all together it was nigh impossible to get a seat but Lili found a spot atop one of the exhibits (I know! rebel that I am) where I perched until the lemmings left to view a partial 72-percenter in the 90-plus degree sun, and enough seats opened up that we could properly watch NASA's feed alongside hundreds of fellow geeks. Did my heart good, if not my poor plantar'ed foot and particularly my digestive system, still mysteriously giving me problems. After-eclipse sushi helped, although it would have been better had Robin joined us (but he's on deadline). Still, not going anywhere much until I feel better. Tomorrow is car inspection and sleeping and trying to bounce back so I can enjoy the rest of my vacay. Glad I didn't make any definite plans for the week! Speaking of cool science, here's a Terran constellation - did you know the world is pretty much just a cat playing with Australia? Science!
