Tuesday, April 14, 2026Monday, April 13, 2026Silly Site o' the DayWitness the pure genius that is Pure Genius! Great, great AI takedown. Via PZ Myers. Thursday, April 09, 2026Silly Site o' the DayStill a bit too cold for me but things are trending upward weather-wise, so check out this interactive isometric pixel art map of almost all of NYC (via Laughing Squid). I say "almost" because you cannot see our house from there, this map considers us part of Yonkers rather than the Bronx so, you know, bummer. Wednesday, April 08, 2026Silly Site o' the DayLooks like we may be through the last of the April cold, and once my IT band exercises bear fruit and I can walk properly again maybe I'll go looking for some cool things on the sidewalk using the Worldwide Sidwalk Joy map (via BoingBoing). First I just need to stop being so chilly... Tuesday, April 07, 2026Silly Site o' the DayWhy am I so hungry? And yet, I'm not on Reddit or any of the other umpteen forms of social media because I'm An Old, so you'll have to discover We Want Plates for yourself. Monday, April 06, 2026Silly Site o' the DayBusy week so far (and it's only Monday!), so running links to sites of interest instead. Today we examine the food storage guide Does It Last? (via BoingBoing). The title's in Spanish but it still works with the English language. Wednesday, April 01, 2026The Clown Makes Fools of Us AllWhite Rabbits and happy April Fools' Day, Pen-Elayne on the Web's official high holiday! When democracy threatens to crumble around us it's hard to keep our sense of humor, but it's also critical because that's our way of being critical of the madness. Robin found some nice corporate April Fools' Day sites here, here are some from Auntie Beeb, and I positively love this one courtesy of the Great British Bake-Off. Want more? Here are some aviation-related AFD things, and I really giggled at this entry from our NYC mayor's office. Monday, March 30, 2026Silly Site o' the DayWork-from-home was fine today, I was able to forget about my right arm pain whilst putting out fires, and I'm in good enough shape for tomorrow. The only frustrating thing to most of us exec assistants was that our expense application didn't work for much of the day, and of course expenses are due month-end. It wasn't quite enshittifiation but it did remind me of this: Via BoingBoing. Friday, March 27, 2026Wednesday, March 25, 2026Monday, March 16, 2026Silly Site o' the DayI'm trying like heck to ignore the torrential rain outside and the cold that's coming in at the back end of it, so I implore each and every one of you to Have a Dandy Day (via BoingBoing)! Wednesday, February 18, 2026Silly Site o' the DayListen, I can't be bothered chronicling my life at the moment, I'm too busy watching the Olympics and working. So here, enjoy this video about algospeak:
Via Laughing Squid. Monday, February 16, 2026Silly Site o' the DaySo you think your day is long? Look at how far you've traveled through space in your lifetime (via BoingBoing). Wednesday, February 11, 2026Silly Site o' the DayBack at the office today, pretty good all in all even though the morning commute was rough. I have to learn not to sit at the window seat while I still have this arm pain. But enough about me, here's the latest valentine from Randy Rainbow: Monday, February 09, 2026Silly Site o' the DayMy right side continues to recover, slowly. I'm losing sleep because something in either my upper arm or neck keeps flinching in pain and waking me up in the wee smalls. But this too shall pass. In the meantime, I'm working from home today and tomorrow, trusting that I'll be well enough to go into Manhattan just as things start to thaw a bit on Wednesday. And, after all, I can watch the Olympics in real time today and tomorrow in the meantime. I mean, it's no World Championships of Shoe Shining (via Laughing Squid), but it's something at least. Thursday, January 29, 2026Snowbound Silly Site o' the DayIt appears we should be able to move the car by Saturday. I got a bit stuck and didn't fully enter the part of the driveway from where I can take off, but there have been enough SUVs and school buses going back and forth that it should be more or less flattened out in a couple of days. Now the trick is actually walking the length of it next week to get to work. I'm still hearing horror stories from colleagues about snow piles at bus stops and intersections that are nearly impossible to navigate, but there's nothing to do about that but hope. In the meantime, we can all dream of fall foliage (via Laughing Squid). Wednesday, January 28, 2026Snowbound Silly Site o' the DayRobin went outside and did some shoveling around our car and salted the steps; tomorrow I "help" him by trying to actually move the car out of its parking spot and onto our U-shaped driveway to see if we can actually get out of here on Saturday to go grocery shopping. In the meantime I'm staying put for the time being. You'll forgive me if I hope for higher temps and maybe a bit of rain (via BoingBoing)... Wednesday, January 21, 2026Silly Site o' the DayI'd already decided yesterday to leave my backpack in a temporary locker and take only my laptop home as tomorrow looks to be a bit less frigid than today. So frustrating, not being able to make amedical appointments or concrete plans of any sort or even enjoy the outdoors because it's So Dang Cold and Windy (particularly around the Hudson Yards area) and I'm So Dang Old. At least the ice around the base of our steps is starting to dissipate, which means I won't need cleats tomorrow. But January is hardly done with us. Maybe I just need a Mirumi: Via BoingBoing. Sunday, January 18, 2026Silly Site o' the DayThe comics are packed and I've found a neighbor willing to climb the two flights of stairs to pick them up tomorrow! Meanwhile it snowed again and the view from our window is very Currier & Ives. Not only didn't we go out, we didn't even get out of our bedclothes. It was a real chicken soup and tea kind of day. But I feel organized. Although not as organized as these competitors in the Housekeeping Olympics: Via Laughing Squid. We've actually had sports of one sort or another on TV for much of the weekend, so I'm well prepared for the Actual Olympics...Saturday, January 17, 2026Silly Site o' the DayWe got home from grocery shopping just as the snow started sticking to things, and it's now a winter wonderland out there but I have little intention of going out until I have to on Tuesday's commute into Manhattan. So I'm curling up with comics prior to packing them all tomorrow and crossing my fingers I can locate a neighbor to take them off my hands, and diving into my Silly Sites. Today's is Wiki's periodic table of fictional elements (via BoingBoing).
