Moving On Up from the East Side

Today I said farewell to my friends at the poke bowl place where I always get lunch when in Manhattan, to my favorite building in the borough (the Chrysler Building), and to the East Side in general, as it was the last day the 345 Park Avenue office was open for business. Just as well considering the shooting incident that happened a couple months back, which still has a lot of folks shaken up. None of us knows what to expect when the new Hudson Yards office officially opens next Wednesday, and I suspect things will be something of a madhouse, but as long as I can handle the longer commute (walking two avenues through Penn Station in the morning and three avenues back through Penn and Macy's in the afternoon) I should be fine. And I'm looking forward to all the new food discoveries and walking along the High Line and the free in-building fitness center and cashless cafeteria and lots of other things to offset the new responsibilities I'll be taking on. I've pretty much ended my old responsibilities again, as my Jamaican colleagues have made it through the hurricane and back into the Kingston office, so I have something of a respite period before things gear up with the new assignment. Not that I have nothing to do with my current assignments! I was kept hopping enough during the day, and packed up everything I could think of for the homeward trudge in the rain. This weekend I'll be sorting out three containers (two bags and one ottoman) full of office stuff deciding what to take with me on Wednesday in my new lightweight backpack. But first, more sleep!
