Silly Site o' the Day

Well, at least the day started off well. We grabbed a kugel from the kosher supermarket, got eight rolls of quarters from the local bank so we're set for laundry for awhile, made great time into NJ to see Mom for the first time in two months, had an outstanding lunch (our first indoor "eating out" meal in over a year!) at a new local sushi place, and made great time with only a few showers... until we hit the Turnpike and were warned by road signs not to continue to the GW Bridge. No biggie, we'll take the Holland Tunnel. And that's where the "fun" began - driving in sheeting rain, lightning, some reports of hail, GPS warning us not to take the Holland but it was fine (albeit a bit slow) once we entered, then the GPS saying not to take the West Side Highway. Which was infuriating, as that turns into the highway closest to where we live. Well, turns out that highway was flooded. So was the Major Deegan. So was pretty much everywhere, so way too much traffic diverted itself to the otherwise-lovely Riverside Drive. Glad we made it there after an hour of standstill traffic on the West Side, but even so it took another 90+ minutes of crawling to get back to our homebound highway. A trip home that had started at 3:30 PM ended up at 8:30. At least we were safe, had plenty of gas, and the car had just been checked! But I'm still shaking now so I'd best collapse and leave you with guinea pigs in bangs, because why not?
