A Corny Conundrum

Here's what I don't get. If we're expected to buy that we'll soon be experiencing a corn shortage due to ethanol (as opposed to actually running out of a non-renewable source like oil), and corn syrup is so horribly bad for us, isn't the solution obvious? Just take the corn you're now using to make corn syrup and put that towards the ethanol, and let's get corn syrup out of our foods and put healthier sugars back in. Am I missing something here?
