Silly Site o' the Day

Goodbye to January, my least favorite month by far - don't let the cosmic door hit you in the ass on the way out, you bloody month! And take your glitches in the matrix with you!

Silly Site o' the Day

A bit slippery this morning - good job Robin walked me halfway to the bus stop - but that melted away or was blown away during the day, so the evening commute was windy but easier. Still, the cold brings on more and more body aches the older I get, apparently. No need to add headaches to them by watching the State of the Union address, but if you really must Susie presents the obligatory BINGO card.

Silly Site o' the Day

My stomach's still somewhat delicate, but as I've said before my workstation is mere steps from a ladies' room, so I was okay at work today. I feel like things are finally easing a bit. Although I'm still somewhat reluctant to make instant pot for two, I'd rather not have Robin crowding my limited knife skills.

Silly Site o' the Day

Watching the Grammy Awards, of course. Give me a good Sunday evening awards show and I'm so there, even if I have little clue as to what the kids today call music. I plan on being even more clueless by utilizing this music map (via BoingBoing) showing the current #1 records in a number of different counties. Pretty cool - hang on, do the kids still say that?

Another terrific episode of Blue Planet II. Wish we had more quality imports from the UK, like The Mash Report, which sounds really cool. Here's an excerpt:

Silly Site o' the Day

My digestive system's playing tricks on me, to the effect that I needed to be near or in a bathroom a lot more than usual at work today. Again, good thing my workspace is only a few feet away! Not doing anything once again this weekend, hoping the situation corrects itself. Only drawback to that is all those annoying Chevy ads; thank goodness for Mahk!

Silly Site o' the Day

Hey, how come none of the bands on this fake Coachella lineup (via BoingBoing) are up for Grammys this weekend?

Silly Site o' the Day

So Mom and I were talking about the magnificent sentencing remarks by Judge Aquilina today, and of course there will be the inevitable backlash of hand-wringers insisting that showing justifiable contempt for a serial pedophile and sexual assaulter is way out of line (as opposed to the actual assaults, I guess?). Send 'em all to the Jane Austen Twitter folks, I says.

Back to work and well on the road to being 100% healthy again. Trying to keep things low-key in the meantime, although certainly not enough to blend into the background...

Just finished watching the SAG Awards, always a good excuse to plug Rotten Apples (via The Mary Sue), of which there were definitely a few in the bunch of actors tomight...

Silly Site o' the Day

Still under the weather, but the weather's getting better outside, at least. No more cleats needed, our driveway is ice-free! Made driving around a lot easier; the weird high-pitched squeaks even stopped when I started 'er up at the supermarket for the drive home. So maybe things are starting to look up. Meanwhile, people who don't know how to and have no desire to govern have of course broken the government (temporarily, one hopes), so I'm hoping the sorting hat (via BoingBoing) will put me in a saner place.

Sily Site o' the Day

I don't know how I got through today. When I wasn't running to and from the bathroom I felt like my head was in a fog. But I got everything done that I needed to, and now I've collapsed for the weekend. I really need to see kittens eating a strawberry, don't you?

Silly Site o' the Day

Going downhill fast, but at least I have cleats for all that inclined ice outside by us. That's part of what's making me so exhausted in the evenings (well, that and my suddenly-increased workload as the admin whom I back up was out sick today). I've had half of Mom's chicken soup, and I'm now going to crawl into bed with more Sir David. Speaking of which, he did NOT do this one:

Silly Site o' the Day

I may be starting to come down with something. This morning around 9 I had the worst dizzy spell at work that I've ever had. I came close to fainting. So I'm glad I've been taking it easy at home, letting our DVR fill up whilst watching lots of David Attenborough on the Beeb. Much better than going anywhere and being afraid of tourist scams (via BoingBoing).

Silly Site o' the Day

Woo-hoo, a clean bill of health from my endocrinologist! Have to stick to the plan, particularly the stationary bike, so my blood glucose numbers stay where they are and I'm not subject to related health issues. Easier said than done but hey, let's just say this is my New Year's resolution and leave it at that. Right now I'm more concerned with whether I have enough cheat sheets (via Wil Wheaton) to cover my new responsibilities at the office...

Silly Site o' the Day

Back to work on a quiet day with lots of folks out, but I have several new short-term assignments backing up an admin who has yet to be hired so it was a day of introducing myself to "new" partners and finding out their needs. Far easier than figuring out what these companies do (via BoingBoing).

Well, at last the mane is trimmed. No book-shopping at the mall though, that's why we have websites that can compile all the worst book covers for you!

Silly Site o' the Day

Well, since Friday the 14th done fall on a Saturday this month, and we'd heard scary stories about Flash Freezing and somesuch, we did all our shopping super-early and were back inside and more than cozy by 9:30 this morning. The roads are a lot dryer than we'd expected, so things look good for a haircut trip tomorrow over the New Bridge (or whatever it's going to be called) so I can feel a bit less raggedy. And who knows, maybe we'll run into Ryan the Godzilla.

Silly Site o' the Day

The temperature rose and the rain fell long enough to get rid of 95% of last week's monster storm, and just in time to ice up tomorrow when temps suddenly plummet. Here's hoping we can get our shopping done before that happens. Meanwhile, distract yourself with Cat Scientists of the 1960s.

Just finished watching this week's NOVA, "Black Hole Apocalypse," without - thankfully - the apocalypse. Terrific documentary. Not sure if it's on the level of this, but I still highly recommend it:

Silly Site o' the Day

The great thaw has begun! Robin had to walk me to the bus stop, as I couldn't carry my laptop through our still-tricky-to-navigate driveway-street, but things were more or less clear once we got to the main sidewalk, and it will only get better as the week progresses, although I'll probably need cleats for a couple more mornings and definitely the water-resistant sneakers for most of the week. Pretty easy to get back into the swing of things at the office, laptop booted up just fine and found the monitors and all. So I guess the holidays are well and truly over now, except there's still this:

Silly Site o' the Day

The temperature rose to a balmy 17 degrees F today, and the wind was fairly nonexistent in our neighborhood (at last!), so Robin shoveled the bit of snow behind our car and we were off to the supermarket - where we still couldn't get everything on our list because they were having delivery problems. So glad we waited until today, yesterday would have been even more fruitless. Well, fruit-and-vegetable-less, but we've just put celery and tomatoes on next weekend's list. At least I have the buffalo wings for tonight's Golden Globes. And speaking of things I shouldn't watch but do, The Mary Sue has the full run-down on the Gorilla Channel Hoax.

Silly Site o' the Day

Still horrid cold and wind out there today, so we opted to shop tomorrow instead. It won't be much less cold, but the wind is supposed to die down. Fingers crossed, as Robin still has to clear some snow from the back of the car where it piled up from the plow going through our driveway/street. If I can make it over that hump we can restock, which we really need to as the fridge is looking pretty sparse. But it could be a lot worse - at least we had food, and we have heat and electricity and health (I'm feeling much better today) and all that good stuff. Of course, not everyone's a winter cocooner like me. So for them, here are some honest ski trail signs, at least so I'm told.

Silly Site o' the Day

Despite our heat working through the night, I woke up feeling like crap. And the driveway/street leading out to the main street and sidewalk was completely blocked, so even if I had felt 100% it would have been very tough going to get to the bus stop, particularly considering the biting cold and wind. So it was another telecommuting day for me, which has just ended. All my partners understood, no problems at all, and I got all the deadline-related stuff done thanks to Robin being able to hook up my home monitor to my work laptop. My job most definitely does not suck, unlike that of these designers who have to deal with clients from hell.

Silly Site o' the Day

Wow, that wind outside is howling up a storm, that storm of course being what blew through here earlier today leaving around 10 inches of snow. Robin braved the elements to clear off the car and immediate environs, on the assumption that some plow or other will be through tomorrow and we may be able to get out and do our grocery shopping when the temps go UP to 20 degrees or so by Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile our firm's NY office closed at noon but most of us were already telecommuting with our laptops, and considering the deep freeze out there and my advanced age (I mean, ever since I turned 60...) I'm planning to do the same tomorrow. No fool I! Speaking growing old gracefully, let's consider the morphing Beatles:

Silly Site o' the Day

Robin came in to lug my work computer (and three weeks' worth of comics) home, and it's all plugged in and hooked up to my home monitor and will be my main machine (I'm typing on it now) until at least 5:30 PM tomorrow. No way I'm going in, but thank goodness the VPN is working spiffily and I'm all set for doing work at 8:30 AM! Meanwhile it's back to The Weather Channel to see what's in store for our area tomorrow (as if it doesn't change every hour), and avoid Twitterstorms that might start WWIII, unless of course it's Satan...

Silly Site o' the Day

First day back at work, and everything went swimmingly, except for the fact that I'm layered up the wazoo because it's so cold. Guess I won't need all those desk exercises, good job I didn't make any New Year's resolutions (besides, of course, to be kinder)!

Silly Site o' the Day

White Rabbits, and Happy New Year! We made it through 2017, so just maybe we'll make it through 2018 as well. Is it too much to ask that, at long last, people start saying "TWENTY 18" instead of "TWO THOUSAND AND 18"? And can someone please mansplain Bitcoin to me?

That'll do, pig. Via Laughing Squid.
