One of the reasons I don't tend to read comment sections, particularly on my favorite feminist blogs, is the mansplaining and the way it both derails substantive discussion of the topic at hand and marginalizes the reasonable people discussing that topic. (Hey, after yesterday's rally, I feel like we should be appreciating reasonable people more than ever.) Gabby Schultz sums this up brilliantly in the following comic:
As Jezebel points out, "Best part? Gabby's a dude." Via Leigh Dragoon, who notes that in Jezebel's comments section "it sure didn't take long for the mansplaining to begin." (Leigh's comment section is, fortunately, reasonable throughout, and has duly warned me away from the similarly gnarled comment section at PZ's place.)
