Tenth Avenue Freeze Out

I didn't have to worry about the NYC Veterans Day parade affecting my commute, now that we're all the way in Hudson Yards. On the other hand, the commute itself isn't easy. This morning I tried the express-to-local bus route in the freezing cold. The local took at least 10 minutes to arrive but thank goodness I was able to sit in the bus shelter, shivering only slightly. The return trip from 10th Avenue and 34th Street was a little more hinky. I waited, standing, in a small shelter in the freezing wind, the northbound bus didn't show for 25 minutes, and when it arrived it was (naturally) SRO. I did get a seat by the time we hit 42nd, and the express bus arrived within 5 minutes of the local dropping me off, plus there was no traffic on the Deegan owing, I guess, to the holiday. So I actually got home by 7, but I don't think I'll be repeating that homeward bound commute. On Thursday I'll repeat my southbound express-to-local thing, which won't leave me be too tired to manage the two-avenue walk through the Moynihan Hall and the LIRR section of Penn Station to the "1" subway. I can then get a local bus in the Bronx; all together much faster than a homeward bound express bus, particularly on a Thursday. At least I get to work from home tomorrow!
