Alas, my neighbors did have other plans than mine today. I mean, in a city of millions with so many houses all close together, how dare they! I really need to get over myself. Earplugs help. The neighbor with the hot tub outside our north-facing bedroom and home office window decided to play loud music this evening, after a day of dueling roofers on a couple homes directly to the east of our bedroom and library windows. As Robin keeps reminding me, it could be a whole lot worse, and it has been (during my Brooklyn years in particular). But the older and less mobile I get, the more I crave having a quiet refuge at home, hence the earplugs. At least our usual morning errands got done, and then some: a haircut, finally, a bit of shopping at the Asian market (yes, I made a stir fry, why do you ask?), then the pharmacy to pick up Robin's meds before doing our usual supermarket run. Someday when we're in a place presumably much quieter than this, I'm sure I'll look back with nostalgic fondness on my current aversion to construction and backyard noise. This is not that day.
