Liberal Coalition Top Ten
Week of 1/1 thru 1/7/06

Well, my brunch with Bobby (and the commute to and from) must have exhausted me, as I got home and pretty much collapsed for much of the afternoon. Finally caught up in LC blog reading, at which I fell behind during this heavy work week. But first, since you've been awaiting them, The Pictures:

About a block away from where I was to meet MB there was a cobblestone street; not too many of those left in the city, although the Bronx/Manhattan commuter bus seems to find the ones on Broadway in the 210's and 220's every time...

Ooh, fire truck activity! I think they'd just gotten them washed or something and were backing them into the firehouse... it was a pretty lazy Sunday morning.

Our plan had been to eat here, but when we went in at 10:45 they told us to come back as they didn't start until 11:30, and by the time we'd Starbuck'ed and Barnes & Noble'd and returned at noon there was no room at the inn. Would it have killed them at 10:45 to suggest we either make a reservation or be there at precisely 11:30 so that we'd be able to get a table?

But you can't keep a good man down - MB was all smiles! And we went to a place around the corner which also served brunchie items. I mean, come on, it's the East Village, it's not like we wouldn't have found a restaurant! Although frankly I was this close to dragging MB to Sharaku so I could wallow in nostalgia for my old job (as the Hamilton-Fish House is right across the street from the Japanese place)...

But Serafina was quite nice and cheery.

Even a bit of the bookcase decor, for which I'm always a sucker. And as Bobby mentioned, we had a great time, talking about a variety of subjects both LC-related and not, no doubt both wondering "okay, how am I going to blog this?" the entire time. Bobby way beat me to it. :) Onward, then, to what else has been going on with the Liberal Coalition folks:

• Bora at Science and Politics is not only collecting blog carnival notices, but amassing advice on how to do carnivals. I could see doing stuff like this back in my organizing days...

• Bryant at Make Me A Commentator! has some random words for us, and a much scarier nightmare than I had the other night.

• Tena at First Draft encounters a Republican up close and personal.

• Guy Andrew Hall of Rook's Rant brings the grim news of another Thomas Covenant series. I'm sharpening my razor blades and looking for the jury duty notice as we speak. (That was the circumstance under which I read the other trilogies, and I've never been so revolted and depressed by such a fascinating fantasy series before or since.)

• Maru Soze at WTF Is It Now?? apparently likes it fun size. Introducing a whole new generation to plaster casting!

• Speaking of m-m-my g-g-generation, Moi at Bloggg brings the sad news that Barry Cowsill passed away in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. She also has an interesting view on David Lee Roth's new radio show and Dick Clark's New Year's Eve appearance.

• Steve Gilliard at The News Blog has an interesting essay on why the likelihood of that many al Qaeda sleeper cells in this country is fairly slim.

• NTodd Pritsky at Dohiyi Mir has posted the second part of Why We Fight, a series of "it can happen here" fascism that I hope he continues. And I love your new dog, NTodd!

• Lastly Scott of ...You Are A Tree is heading out to San Fran - I'm filled with jealousy! Oh no, wait, that's just the Eggs Benedict...
