Silly Site o' the Day

We were all set for a lovely afternoon and evening with our Connecticut (and Firesign) friends Tom and Lili, but my right leg (mostly foot and ankle, although I suspect the knee is to blame) decided to play silly buggers so I crossed off the holiday train show at the Botanical Gardens first thing. A bit too cold anyway. T&L were kind enough to get a cab from the parking garage in Queens to the Museum of the Moving Image (right next to Astoria Studios, which looked very cool indeed) to save me five blocks and three avenues of limping in windy weather, but unfortunately the museum's 3D projector was on the fritz. So we stood there with dozens of other moviegoers waiting to be let in to the theatre, which did my feet no good (standing still is always worse than walking). We finally settled in to watch a non-3D version (basically a DVD playing off a Mac) of Hugo, the only Scorcese movie I recall ever sitting through, so you know, it was kind of like being at home with a slightly larger screen and more people. There was a killer Mexican restaurant across the street, and then T&L miraculously conjured up another cab to get us back to their car, after which it was back to the Riggs residence for some Christmas pudding (even a small one is way too much for two, so I'd decided to save it for their visit) and champagne (after all it's almost New Year's Eve). So it did turn out to be a somewhat lovely afternoon and evening, but mostly for the company if not the circumstances. And we all agreed that 2016 has sucked the big one:
