Silly Site o' the Day

I was going to start scanning INSIDE JOKE today preparatory to finally putting it online, but you know that's 80+ issues of 32 pages each so it's a helluva project. Heck, I was going to do a Memorial Day blogaround too. But I'm afraid inertia won. Our DVR benefitted the most, we're down to only a half-dozen episodes of one program, so that's something. And oh goodness but I'm sick sick sick of all the tributes to "our fallen warriors" and not one bloody word about the disservice our government has done to our wounded warriors for decades now. At least the Daily Show and the Colbert Report did fine work there:

And all this blather about "their ultimate sacrifice" so we could enjoy our barbecues and such makes me ashamed. As long as this mythic meme is fed and sustained, peace-loving folk will never, ever succeed in pointing out the complete disconnect between sending young people to be cannon fodder in useless, pointless wars of choice and a shrinking middle class worshipping consumerism and the pie-in-the-sky dream of someday being in the 1% whilst our actual freedoms (freedom from want, freedom of and from religion, freedom to be secure in our persons) are being slowly eroded, sometimes with our actual consent.

So yeah, this Memorial Day, as with just about every day, I mourn the utter futility of war, and the lives taken on all sides by this stupidity, and hope that someday as a race we can all embrace peace, even in the simulated war games we call sports:
