I'll admit it, I watched about an hour of the Video Music Awards yesterday. And it occurred to me once more how self-absorbed many of the songs were. I enjoy Lady Gaga's performance, but "Applause" is really all about how "we" love her. Just like Madonna's song last year "demanded" that "we" love her. But I suppose every generation gets the music it deserves, and as Matthew Inman so brilliantly reminds us in OHMYGOSH go read this link, it's the Era of the Selfie.
