Silly Site o' the Day

White Rabbits! An entry by Jeff Brechlin that won a Washington Post Style Invitational contest held in March 2006 (alas, their search archives prior to 2005 are behind a paywall or I'd link to it directly) is making the rounds again thanks to BoingBoing, and I thought Mom would appreciate it:

The Fervid Hokey Poke

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke,
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from Heaven's yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the Poke -- banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

As a bonus, however, I was able to find Brechlin's Picture of Dorian Grape, which won another Style Invitational way back in May of 2006...

If you like these winning Style Invitational entries from Jeff Brechlin -- both the Hokey Pokey sonnet and the Dorian Grape photo -- you're sure to like the similar stuff that the Invitational publishes every week -- and Jeff is still contributing. You can see this week's and a number of previous contests at washingtonpost.com/StyleInvitational.
Best,
