Week of 4/30 thru 5/6/06
This will be my last weekly blog roundup of my fellow Liberal Coalition members' posts-of-interest-to-me until May 28, as I don't plan on doing any blog reading while we're off visiting Rob's family and friends, and on the day we return I'm going to mark all my Blogline subs as read and start fresh. Enjoy!
• Andante at Collective Sigh reports that Mount St. Helens now has a fin.
• Bora/Coturnix at Science and Politics has a few interesting tidbits this past week, about how climate change is affecting birds' migratory habits, the current state of storytelling, and how he refuses to teach biology without mentioning evolution.
• Echidne of the Snakes hails retiring astronaut Eileen Collins.
• Jane Hamsher at Firedoglake talks about the equivalency of responses concerning famous political drug addicts Patrick Kennedy and Rush Limbaugh, but I haven't seen any blogs on the left excusing Kennedy's behavior. Plus, as she says, Kennedy hasn't gone on anti-drug crusades so there's no hypocrisy factor at work here (same thing re: sex scandals - liberals who have gay affairs tend not to go around ranting about the evils of homosexuality the way closeted conservatives do). Mustang Bobby at Bark Bark Woof Woof also muses on Kennedy. Earlier in the week, Jane discussed a lawsuit against Porter Goss and I can't help but wonder whether it too has anything to do with Goss' subsequent resignation. And Kathy at Liberty Street offers a good overview of the blogosphere's coverage of Goss.
• Keith at Invisible Library examines one side of The Sultan's Elephant which, darn it all, will be over by the time we hit London. I smiled at his opening query "Have you ever wondered what it would be like if we had a genuine appreciation of the arts in the US?" because the bank officer we saw yesterday had trouble marking down Robin's profession as "artist" wasn't even one of the choices given her!
• Kenneth at T. Rex celebrates his ten years of togetherness with wife Melissa. Awwww...
• Steve of The News Blog introduces us to lambic beer, takes a survey to find out how people use the internet in their daily lives (I use it at work to make travel arrangements for my boss and look up other stuff for him, as well as at home to make purchases of things I can't find at places where they're supposed to be sold), and has a nice Colbert sumup as well.
• Uptown Ruler at Scrutiny Hooligans digs into the recent past to uncover a memo about oil company price-fixing by "intentionally reduced refining capacity in an effort to boost profits," and sings the praises of 15-year-old Ava Lowery of Peace Takes Courage.
More non-LC linky-dumpy stuff later. The next LC blogaround is in three weeks, see you then!
