One From the 'Rents

Mom and/or Dad just e-mailed me this essay from E.L. Doctorow entitled The Unfeeling President. I haven't seen it linked to anywhere else (although granted, I've fallen way behind in blog reading again), so I'm passing it along now. I think it makes a nice companion piece to the Suskind Without A Doubt essay; when you're no longer living a "reality-based" existence it makes sense that you don't have a feeling of gravitas for death. Update: And, as if on cue, we now learn that Bush told his buddy Pat Robertson that there weren't going to be any casualties in Iraq. Not being able to feel death, indeed...
