Seems that Tim Collins, the colonel who made this speech to his Royal Irish Regiment troops back last spring about how they ought to treat Iraqis, disciplined a US army reservist (and part-time traffic policeman), Major Re Biastreof, who turned around and alleged he (Collins) had mistreated Iraqi prisoners. After the MoD launched an extensive investigation into these charges, Col Collins was eventually exonerated, promoted and awarded an OBE. Now he's resigning,
believed to have become disillusioned with the army after it failed to support him when he was accused of mistreating Iraqi prisoners. He is also said to be concerned that the army is becoming little more than a Home Guard.More details from his wife.
