Silly Site o' the Day

What a lovely way to end March! Despite allergies which really knocked us out for most of the morning, we had a great "date night" lunch out before doing our errands, and I was reminded once again how much I enjoy Robin's company. You know, the old "I don't just love him, I like him" thing. I've lucked out in that department, I still like my ex-husband too. He's a retired librarian, and would probably appreciate this.

Silly Site o' the Day

By about 11 AM the deadline crisis had passed, which is understandable given how few people were in Manhattan during Passover Prep/Good Friday. But I still have no energy. Maybe Benedict CumberCat can work his magic:

Silly Site o' the Day

I'm beyond tired. I was corraled into helping do the same sort of report "merging" that I did years back ag the old company that KPMG purchased, and I can't even see straight. I don't have the words, but maybe I can find the emojis:

Here's a disturbing thought: it's quite likely always Fashion Week somewhere. Run!

Silly Site o' the Day

My foot really backslid with the cold, but at least I wore my winter jacket today (unlike yesterday when I got quite the chill from my only outerwear being a flannel sweater). Might as well be in Maine. Here's some Maine news, sort of (via BoingBoing).

Silly Site o' the Day

I felt much better today, at least in Manhattan. I think the allergens are just a bit much in Bronkers. Still, well enough to get things done that needed to be done, and still have time left to listen to Derek Smalls' new offering:

Silly Site o' the Day

An absolutely wasted day, I'm afraid. Both of us got up pretty much unable to move, most likely due to allergens we picked up yesterday in NJ. So after dragging ourselves out to do the bare minimum of food shopping, we waved the white flag. You can wave your own flag here (via BoingBoing).

Silly SIte o' the Day

While we (myself, Robin, my brother Jay and sister-in-law Kara) were having a wonderful time among the snowpiles of the Jersey shore feting Mom for her birthday, lots of other amazing people were marching all around the world to stop US gun violence in schools (and presumably everywhere). In their honor, here is gun control explained using cats:

As tomorrow is Mom's birthday and today is Friday, I think this is fairly appropriate:

Can't wait to see Mom tomorrow!

Silly Site o' the Day

It looked this morning like we got maybe 8" of snow yesterday, and it was rough going in the boots (with my foot still hurting) until we got out to the main sidewalk, but by evening it was all gone (it seems to have never existed below 96th Street in Manhattan) and it looks as though I'm back to sneakers tomorrow. Wonder what the future weather has in store for us:

Erm, never mind. Via Laughing Squid.

Silly Site o' the Day

The snow is still coming down, but it doesn't appear nearly as bad as originally forecast. Nonetheless our office was closed today so Robin set up my work laptop with my home monitor and I was good to go. Although I'm never really as comfortable working from home as from the office, I guess I just like the routine. Here are some other differences.

Silly SIte o' the Day

So everyone's going impending-storm-crazy, and Robin came into Manhattan to help carry my laptop home since I'm having trouble carrying myself (although the foot certainly isn't as bad as last week). We decided to have "date night" at home and good thing, too - the roads were packed and it took a record 2-1/2 hours (okay, I exaggerate, it was really 2 hours and 20 minutes) to get home via the express bus. I really need the 10-foot commute tomorrow, I hope it helps me heal a bit. That and chocolate. Maybe even a chocolate Rubik's Cube:

Silly Site o' the Day

Ugh, something about being back to work just triggers my plantar pain. Not sure why, but the foot is back to hurting again. Time to get out the rolling pin! I dunno, maybe I just need a more balanced media diet (via BoingBoing)...

Silly Site o' the Day

Woo-hoo, our taxes are done! As are lots of other things around the house so, despite the allergic reactions and a somewhat queasy tummy, I fel the weekend has been a good one. Here are some very cute animal reviews by zoo workers.

Silly Site o' the Day

Top o' the mornin', and boy am I sleepy. Bad an 8AM medi-pedi, before which I had to battle in a tiny parking lot to maneuver my car around (back and forth around a dozen times) so it was facing the right direction for exiting (naturally by the time my appointment was done all the other cars were gone), and now I'm just exhausted and waiting for Robin to wake up so we can shop and I can collapse. I think most of what I'm feeling is related to allergies, but it's still more debilitating than I'd like. Let's soothe the senses with some dominoes, shall we?

It's been awhile since we've run a Simon's Cat episode, hasn't it?

And now, back to the cat of this house, who is demanding ever-increasing affection.

As a public service, I'd like to make you aware of some very British problems. You're welcome.

Silly Site o' the Day

In celebration of me being able to stay in the living room without my foot and leg pain increasing (although my leg muscle did spasm a few times), Robin put on the Beauty & The Beast film starring a couple of Emmas, Galdalf, young Obiwan and that guy from Legion. (Seriously, I had no idea Dan Stevens had those wonderful pipes, I'm now hoping for a Legion musical episode.) Lots of fun, and in honor of all the faux Frenchness of it all, I present my new favorite sport:

Et voila! Yeah, it's a real thing in the world. Via Laughing Squid.

Silly Site o' the Day

I can walk again! Well, carefully and making sure not to tax the foot too much, but yeah, not even limping any more, and the pain has reduced to an occasional twinge. About time too. I'm even regaining my appetite for whatever it is Jeff Goldblum is doing:

Silly Site o' the Day

The foot and leg seem to be improving; by the end of the workday I wasn't even limping. I hope to be back to normal tomorrow, as I miss sitting in the recliner (one of the things that has been triggering the pain this past week) and just not being in pain. Pain is exhausting in and of itself. I'm really hoping the coming storm doesn't hit our area too badly, I'd rather stick with my usual comfy sneakers than have to wear either the waterproof ones or my boots, either of which would probably not do my foot that much good. Meanwhile, as it's Meat-Free Monday let's have some photos of old folks with vegetation on their heads.

Silly Site o' the Day

Ugh, I can't believe we're still doing Daylight Saving Time in this century. We were all set to do our taxes, but between my continued foot pain and both of us feeling far less than 100% we've postponed the actual Turbo Tax part until next weekend. At least the receipts are all gathered. Meanwhile, I'm shopping Goob, for goobers (via BoingBoing).

Silly Site o' the Day

It was still tricky getting around today, but I found that limping around the supermarket actually worked better than pushing the shopping cart. Sleep helps most of all. I've just become hyper-aware of what I'm doing with my leg all the time, and taking steps not to move it in a way that triggers the pain. At this rate I hope to be back to normal by this time next week... we can but hope... Looks like there are no awards shows this weekend, so I'll have to make do with the Razzies' "in memoriam" tribute to a-holes:

Silly Site o' the Day

Heating the leg muscles helped a bit, as my foot and ankle area improved enough for me to limp about without a cane. So glad the weekend's ahead, I plan on staying off the foot as much as I can. And since Zed will not let me be and jumps up on the keyboard stand to be petted every single time I sit at the computer desk, let's celebrate with some famous paintings re-created with cats.

Silly Site o' the Day

The foot/ankle area was marginally better during the day (after, of course, climbing through the snow and ice in boots and cleats, which was really painful) but it's backslid now, so I'm at the computer for a little bit longer then to bed. I can't even watch any new Attenborough any more, so I'll need to make do with parodies:

Silly Site o' the Day

The good news is, the office was closed today so I worked from home. The bad news is, I probably wouldn't have been able to come in anyway due to my foot pain, or ankle pain, or whatever it is that's not getting better. I'm at a loss as to what to do, so I'm just enduring. Being either vertical or horizontal is magnitudes better than being in the recliner, so I haven't been spending any appreciable time in the living room other than to eat. Robin's been wonderful, although you'd think he could at least make me a...

Silly Site o' the Day

Made it! The foot is starting to ease but I'm not yet out of the woods. So it's a good job I've got all my plans in place to work remotely from home tomorrow. Today was a pretty light day, and I'm expecting the same tomorrow, so maybe I'll just take a bunch of training courses. I'll definitely try to limit that Facebook time, lest I become one of these types of users.

Silly Site o' the Day

Maybe it was going without the plantar brace this morning. Maybe it was having to share my seat on the bus. Whatever the cause, my foot kept getting worse throughout the day, and now I can't really walk without support. Looks like I'll be bringing the cane to work tomorrow, which will be interesting because I'll have to bring my laptop home what with the impending storm. As Robin is between jobs he's able to help, but I really don't like being dependent. Not only that, I can't do the Hamilton Polka:

Silly Site o' the Day

Taking time out of watching the Oscars to catch up on blogging. So far it's a fun ceremony, though I haven't seen any of the movies. But it's the kind of evening that makes me wonder, what if Nicolas Cage played every role in Hollywood? (No, it doesn't really.)

Silly Site o' the Day

The wind wasn't that bad today so we got our shopping done as soon as we were awake enough to go out. I have all kinds of weird leg problems lately, hope the coming spring takes care of that. Here, have some stupid men's fashion.

Silly Site o' the Day

Well, March certainly came in like a lion, particularly today. I got permission to leave about 45 minutes early and, though the snow, rain, and wind didn't affect me particularly, it played havoc with things around me. Really pretty to watch it swirling around outside the bus, very glad I was in a very large and heavy vehicle (and NOT driving) to avoid it. We had to make one detour as there was a downed tree along the route more towards where I live. Hoping we don't lose electricity, but we don't seem to have it as bad as some other nearby areas. I think we could all use some cat blogging about now:

Silly Site o' the Day

Ladies and gents, a functioning sort-of Rubik's Cube made out of cheddar cheese.

Via Laughing Squid. What, you didn't expect a usable cheesy Rubik's? You're so weird.

Doctor Memory

White Rabbits! And boy, what a day it's been. Actually, this past two hours has seemed like a day. After Robin came to meet me at the bus stop and we walked home, I couldn't find my car keys when he wanted to get something out of the trunk (or the boot, to our English friends). I figured I'd put them on top of the used-to-be-wine-rack but is now a catch-all for newspapers and mail and my car key when I don't put it back in my hip pack. It was not there. Robin spent the next hour or so turning over everything in that general vicinity, looking through my jeans pockets, rummaging through every pocket of every jacket and sweater I was likely to wear during the last week. I spent it trying to figure out when to call a locksmith over the weekend so we could have a dupe made of both the key and its attached remote, but mostly just wracking my brain to try and remember where the key was. Because there are few things that fill me with more unexplained dread than not being able to remember something. I just... I just can't with the memory thing. Then on a hunch I checked the pants I'll be taking to the dry cleaner - and of course there was the key. And the moment I found it the memory returned; I suddenly recalled the exact circumstance that led to its being put in that pocket. And that was more of a relief to me than the actual finding of the key, if that makes any sense.

So, there you have it. My first post that's not a silly site in... well, ages. Blame it on Purim, which led to me thinking more and more about finishing Megillat Vashti and other writing projects. Can spring be far behind?
