Remember my post last week about how event planners at geek-friendly conventions reinforce the notion "that the primary function of women at a mixed-group event is as available playthings and adjuncts for men (i.e., The Other), and only secondarily as friends or peers (i.e., People)."? Happens in the "real" world as well, as mentioned by PZ Myers, in this case at an Australian conference on climate change. I think it'd be really nice if we evolved a little more socially now that we're in the 21st century, you know? Just saying.
