Mo' Media
One of the great things about the Internet, at least as it still operates, is that some very pointed public service commercials that won't make it onto the government- and corporate-controlled airwaves still have a chance to find an audience with enough word of mouth. Yesterday (see post below) I mentioned the Army of One ad from Take Back the Media (link at sidebar); today, via Jeralyn Merritt (link at sidebar), I've discovered some from Eric Blumrich's Bushflash (I'm assuming they're not to be confused with BuzzFlash, link at sidebar, although they do seem to share a sensibility). Occupation is a frank overview of what's actually happening in Iraq, complete with all the Geneva Conventions broken by the occupying power. Grand Theft America examines the role of Bush paramour Katherine Harris in subverting democracy in Florida and, by extension, in the rest of the country. (You may want to turn your sound down a bit, the soundtrack from Grand Theft Auto is a bit pulsating.) Buddy Buddy is about 9-11 and mentions the Pakistani connection, which it seems like most of us are ignoring in favor of the Saudi one. All the animations on their site are well worth checking out.
