Of Parking and Driving

For my first real Wednesday PTO day this summer (as I had to work a couple hours last Wednesday), I decided to visit Mom. I reasoned that the trip back across the GW Bridge would be a piece of cake on a weekday, and I was right. However, I didn't count on waking up at 4 AM, necessitating returning to bed around 6:30 from which I didn't re-awaken until well after 9, when I had originally planned to be on the road. Nor did I anticipate the awful traffic on the Deegan leading to the NY side of the bridge. And I certainly didn't count on not being able to find a parking spot in the nursing home lot! I had to park a very long way away, but at least the car was in a shady pseudo-garage structure. Long story short, my visit was a bit shorter than my total commute, and I'm determined to stick to Saturday visits going forward. And next Wednesday, weather permitting, I'm sticking closer to home!

  1. Never take the Deegan to the bridge, you’re always better off where you’re at just going down the Henry Hudson and eating the toll… much faster way to get there and worth the money.

  2. The problem with that is getting onto the lower level once you've turned the corner from Riverside Drive. It's an awful interchange to traverse 2-3 lanes, and I need to be awake enough for it.
