Silly Site o' the Day

I do have a thing for awards shows, but more and more in recent years the reason is twofold: the costumes and to find out Who These People Are who are at least 2-3 generations removed from me. The shows themselves can either be a lot of fun or cringingly fake, and I got to see both the sublime and the ridiculous today, as we watched the lovely BAFTA movie awards in the afternoon (evening in London) and I stomached as much as I could of the People's Choice Awards. Here's an example of why I loved the former:

As for the latter, it was so glaringly obvious it was fixed from the start that it hit every single insincere Hollywoodish patting-oneself-on-the-back note in existence, despite the fact that I liked some of the winners. And make no mistake, winners were the only ones in the audience. We saw all of them during the red carpet, being insincere with the interviewers, and while the lists of nominees were dutifully read out only the winners were the ones who happened to be in attendance, and they were the exact same folks interviewed during the pre-show. I imagine the Oscars will be somewhere between these two extremes, but with better ads.
