Silly Site o' the Day

I had a lovely lunch with Val today, wherein we discussed a wide range of topics including the fact that there's just Too Much Out There to consume, entertainment-wise. Case in point, everyone's seen Black Panther but me, it seems. I haven't even seen Thor Ragnarock yet. So I assume this is funny, but I just don't know:

Silly Site o' the Day

The divide between real life and tee-vee grows greater every day. Here are some things real people don't say about ads.

Silly Site o' the Day

Over? The Olympics can't be over yet, I still have related silly sites! Like this one from a few years back comparing Evgenia Medvedeva's Sailor Moon ice skating routine to the anime, more or less shot for shot:

Silly Site o' the Day

Well, that's it, the Olympics are over and I look forward to watching the complete closing ceremony without insipid commentary tomorrow. But every now and then the Olympics folks do cute stuff:

Silly Site o' the Day

On the one hand, it was a struggle shopping today with my right leg pain, and me wincing every time I tried to move from the brake to the accelerator and vice versa. On the other hand, it was one of those special Pokemon GO events that actually involved a Pokemon I've been trying to evolve for at least six months, and with Robin's help (he played while I drove) I finally amassed enough of this li'l gal to evolve her. Now I can concentrate on these non-existent Pokemon and their evolutions.

Silly Site o' the Day

The work week is done, none too soon. Lots of leg and foot achiness, and I could really use the weekend to recover. I'd drink more water, but apparently women can't do so correctly.

Jamie Fridman continues to knock 'em out of the park. The one on the top is my favorite.

Yeah, I'm getting Olympic'ed out. Here's something I happen to find even more fascinating. Keep your eye on the blue marble:

Sillly Site o' the Day

When the morning fog cleared the day warmed up nicely, and tomorrow's slated to be even better. Unfortunately this marks the return of allergies, so I've been feeling somewhat foggy myself all day, and pretty much just conked for about an hour after dinner. But I'm back to at least blog about the Olympics that this isn't, as we take a look at the faces of synchronized swimmers.

Silly Site o' the Day

Really sped through the city today, as most businesses are closed for Presidents Day but our firm was open. Had to time the buses just right, as they were on a Saturday schedule and only came every half hour. But I got through quite a bit, and made it home in pretty much record time. Am enjoying the hell out of more Mahk mock-ads as shown on Laughing Squid, particularly the Apple one.

Silly Site o' the Day

Back to Olympics watching (well, and sleeping, and reading, and even a little cooking)! You know, someone besides me has often wondered, what if every Olympic sport was photographed like beach volleyball?

Silly Site o' the Day

At last, we headed down to see Mom after way too long. Between being under the weather and, well, under the weather, I was only able to get the car taken care of last week and I didn't want to do a four-hour round-trip with it being all wonky. We made it back about a half hour ago, well before the snow started falling, so we lucked out there. And Mom even treated us to lunch at the local diner; fortunately the food looked nothing like this (via BoingBoing).

As a fan both cats and zoetrops and, of course, yummy-looking food, oh boy, do I want this:

Silly Site o' the Day

I wish the mainstream press would stop trying to bend more and more rightwards to please people who will never, ever like them, and just try to report the truth. Matthew Deseem seems to feel much the same way, but he's put it to Gilbert & Sullivan in I Am the Very Model of a New York Times Contrarian (via BoingBoing).

Can't blog... must return to watching Olympics... having the same reactions as many of these people...

So is it Mardi Gras or the Chinese New Year? Laissez le dim sum roulez? I'm sure that must be a candidate for the Not Yorker (via BoingBoing).

More fun with Olympics: Skiers Photoshopped onto toilets! Yes, you very well could have lived without that.

Silly Site o' the Day

After yesterday's foot and knee struggles I was kind of dreading getting up, but no pain this morning! I was out of the house around 9 to take the car in and solve the Mystery of the Squeaky Engine, which turned out to be that I needed a couple drive belts. Alas, that meant (between waiting for the belts to be delivered, then redelivered when one of them turned out to be the wrong one) killing almost three hours at the auto place, but it was worth it to have my baby purring like a Zed and handling better than it has in months. We did our shopping in the rain (fortunately it didn't start pouring until we returned) and I got me some oatmeal as that's been my breakfast at work for the past week and does seem to be helping me in terms of glycemic maintenance and other things. Then we watched the online feed of last night's Olympics opening ceremony with "natural sound," so much better without the NBC commentary we had to sit through last night! Now there's figure skating (well, ice dancing), so I'm looking forward to seeing the fun grimaces. Back to the TV!

Silly Site o' the Day

My rough (but manageable!) day at work well behind me, and my foot and knee brace off as my legs recover, I'm trying to watch the Olympics opening ceremony but the stupid American POV keeps getting in the way. Oh well, at least we can all agree that Valentine's Day is coming up next Wednesday, and Simon's Cat is getting ready:

Now back to some fun spectacle and way too much jingoism.

Silly Site o' the Day

My third relatively quiet workday in a row, which is good because I'll need all my energy for tomorrow. For now, though, I'm just hungry, and I bet you are too. Let's have a look at some of the most expensive foods in the world:

Silly Site o' the Day

The plantar's been acting up lately, despite my work with stretching and the rolling pin and wearing the brace even at night, so I wasn't about to put on the water-resistant sneakers even with today's forecast of drenchitude, because they tend to make the plantar hurt more and that was the last thing I needed. So I was a bit damp on the homeward commute, but am drying out nicely now, at least until my shower. So I guess I timed things okay, but of course not as well as these perfectly-timed photos.

Silly Site o' the Day

The eyesight seems to be back to normal; the plantar flareup will take a bit longer. But all in all a good start to the week, particularly considering I stayed up for all the Super Bowl ads. So did Nathan Robinson, who reacts to the MLK tone-deafness with this:

Pretty good ads so far, overall. Oh yeah, and there's a game that keeps interrupting them. But I can't understand what they're saying:

Silly Site o' the Day

The eye is still bothering me, like some drop of liquid is in there and won't wash out, but I'm sure this will right itself soon. In the meantime I'm almost fully functional, the left foot and right leg are getting better (had them both braced when we did our shopping today), and sleep will help more than anything else. Probably have to put on hold my Big Book of Fake Books reading, though...

Silly Site o' the Day

So the silly white men in rural PA and their pet rodent have decided I'm going to have six more weeks of body aches. Foot's a bit better, eyesight's a bit worse, but I can't tell what's what due to the possible side effects of the medication. At least I got through a pretty busy day, and while I was "on call" for evening work during our busy season nobody needed anything so I was able to leave at regular time. Now the recovery begins! I hear there's some sort of football game this Sunday, but I'm mainly in it for the ads. Here's some vintage print ads re-imagined with the gender roles reversed.

Silly Site o' the Day

White Rabbits, and ugh, February has done me no favors so far. Had my insides checked today, needed meds, the combo of the meds and the worsening weather had me catching a chill and crashing around 8 PM, and I just woke up again sweating. Left eye has been blurrier than usual; can't see or feel any obstruction, just can't focus it properly. And I could hardly walk on my left foot this evening, thanks to the plantar flaring up. Unfortunately I have to go to work one more day before crashing for the third weekend in a row. Maybe I'll just sit and stare (if my eyes can handle it) at real-time virtual train trips through Norway...
